The Government We Deserve

No nation, in the history of humankind, has long-survived the erosion of civil discourse and the loss of confidence in the integrity and credibility of its legislative institutions. Ours will not be the exception.

For the past few podcasts, I have talked a great deal about what divides us. Race, religion, politics, and so forth. I hope my arguments have convinced you that it is our division that weakens us and leaves us vulnerable to those who seek to exploit our differences. That division is the direct path that leads to our eventual social destruction.

On January 31, 2020, many on the right were jubilant when the United States Senate, led by the Republican majority, voted to not hear witnesses or to allow new documents into the impeachment trial of Donald Trump. This almost certainly means an acquittal for the president, if the Senators do as expected, and cast their votes along party lines. For Trump and his supporters, it is a victory. For the United States Constitution, as it stands, it is a death sentence. And it may prove, far too high a price, for America to pay!
