America is like a ship with a divided crew and a captain who benefits from their division, aimlessly sailing into an uncertain future.

When did we start to think that to apologize was a weakness? At what point did it become acceptable to allow our leadership to double down on a lie? When did we become so partisan that there is almost nothing on which we can agree?

Where we are today, and where our country seems to be heading, did not happen overnight. It has been years in the making.

Crafty politicians, planting the seeds of divisiveness, religious leaders, shifting their message from unity and charity to nationalism and prosperity, media manipulation and misinformation, and a self-centered, indifferent public, in relentless pursuit of material gain, has placed us on a path toward social destruction.
